With the usual short-notice customary in the media industry, our whitewater rafting session in Northampton last autumn was gatecrashed by a TV crew.
The guys from the Nene Whitewater Centre did their best to put on a great show for the cameras and our plucky participants - plus the two undercover princesses - swallowed several gallons of river water in the pursuit of the perfect shot.
The programme was cunningly working titled "28 Dates Later" and purported to follow the fortunes of three ladies from overseas who come to try their hand at dating UK-style.
As was later revealed, we were actually in the presence of Princess Aaliya of Balasinor and Princess Xenia of Saxony, now well-known to BBC TV viewers after the show's extensive airing on BBC3.
Under some none-too-subtle interrogation later by RSVP MD Anne, the princesses generously agreed that the RSVP chaps were some of the most charming and likeable they had met on their whistlestop dating tour of Britain.
Aaliya even went as far as trying to persuade one RSVP member and regular host - Mike - to go back to India with her for a couple of weeks.
Sadly, Mike declined and we'll never know what the future would have held.
Undercover Princesses aired on BBC3 in March/April 2010. |
